I wish Charlee Jacob had lived to be involved, but life had other plans. I look forward to this coming to fruition.

been boring my friends with this logical endgame since i saw a drone swarm and 3d printers. Everything that Termjnator needs to happen already exists and is controlled by billionaires who support fascism from volcano lairs.

maybe call Charles Stross? author of Accelerando?

I really think the reason they went after making these LLMs sound so human was to shortcut the Turing test. Maybe they didn't say that to themselves but that's the root of it. It doesn't fucking matter if they're sentient or not as long as we believe they are or could be. It's AGI as soon as we believe it is.

Anyways, loved it as always, please make those anthologies happen. I'd gladly throw something in.

And who would I talk to at 16? Probably Spike from Cowboy Bebop. A real role model for sure.

I want in. The team needs at least one old guy that nobody ever heard of who writes mostly essays mostly about language who is totally fed up with humanity's inhumanity and who sees the environmental catastrophe of our own creation rushing toward us and who sees having to have a cellphone to receive the code number to let my laptop connect to my account on god knows what as a bright blinking caution light. I'm that guy.

The observation about neural networks that "compress and dilate time" captures something genuinely unsettling about the AI alignment problem. When these systems can run a million simulations in the time it takes us to blink, we're not just dealing with faster computation—we're dealing with entities that exist in a fundamentally different temporal dimension. Your Minecraft civilization example makes this visceral: while we slept one night, those agents lived through what might be years of social evolution, creating art, religion, politics. That temporal dilation means any safety testing we do is essentially meaningless—by the time we identify a problem pattern, the system has already iterated through countless variations we haven't even imagined.
